Kilkenny's Intermediate team for Saturday's All-Ireland Final has been named with Conor Phelan as captain, The team includes Liam Tierney, Mark Phelan, Sean Cummins, Shane Prendergast, Philly Lonergan, Pat Hartley, Kieran Joyce, Niall Walsh, Bill Beckett, Paddy Hogan, Michael Grace, Peter Cleere, Noel Doherty and one more player to be announced to complete the team. The Intermediate's will face Limerick in Semple Stadium in Thurles tomorrow with throw in at 2.30pm.

The Kilkenny Senior Hurling team have been met with record crowds over the past week at their training sessions in Nowlan Park. Training continues on Saturday at 5pm in the county grounds. See kilkennygaa.ie for more details.

St Patrick's Athletic progressed to the First Round of the UEFA Cup on a historic night for Irish football at Richmond Park. Goals from Jason Gavin and Mark Quigley put Pat's into today's draw.

FIFA have confirmed that the World Cup qualifier between the Republic of Ireland and Georgia will take place on Saturday 6 September and is to be played in Mainz, outside Frankfurt in Germany. Damien Duff has been ruled out of the 22-man squad for the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier. Winger Duff has been forced to withdraw with a groin injury he picked up in Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Bolton at the weekend.

In Irish soccer news the Independent Club Licensing committee of the FAI have deducted 10 points from Cork City for being involved in an examinership process. The sanction is effective immediately. The decision leaves Cork in fourth place in the table, 23 points behind leaders Bohemians
