Lynch out of Olympic race for gold
Denis Lynch's gelding Latinus has been banned from competing in tonight's jumping event due to doping allegations. A version of the popular 'Deep Heat' product commonly used by athletes is to blame for the suspension of Irish Olympic rider Denis Lynch's horse Lantinus, Horse Sport Ireland has claimed today.
Also in Olympic news, Irish middleweight Boxer; Darren Sutherland will now fight English boxer James Degale in the semi-finals on Friday morning. Also, Alistair Cragg has qualified for the final of the 5000 metres. He finished sixth in his heat but advances as one of the fastest losers.
In Soccer... FIFA have confirmed that Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Georgia on September 6 is to be switched to a neutral venue, owing to security concerns in the wake of recent events in the region.
In GAA news. The under 21 team has been announced for the All Ireland Semi Final match against Galway. The match takes place in Thurles on Saturday @ 2.30pm. A bus will depart from Patricks Street on Saturday. See Kilkennygaa.ie for more details.
