E-flow tags 

Barrier-free tolling on the M50 is due to come into force at midnight tonight. Customers who have registered for the e-flow tag option are being advised to activate it before travelling on the M50 by visiting the e-flow website at eflow.ie.

Village closure

The Village magazine has announced its closure today. Journalist Vincent Browne, who owns the magazine, said he took the decision because of mounting losses and falling advertising revenues. Three jobs are to go as a result of the closure.

Zoom passengers stranded

Hundreds of travellers have been left stranded at Belfast, Cardiff and Glasgow airports and at airports in Canada after the collapse of the transatlantic budget airline, Zoom. The UK and Canada-based firm, which operates routes from Belfast, grounded all flights last night as they prepared to go into administration. Zoom said its problems were caused by what it called the horrendous price of fuel and the economic slowdown.

CAO acceptance

Record numbers of CAO offers are being accepted for courses starting this year.
It is thought applicants may fear third level fees could be on the way back and are making sure to apply this year while they can still avail of fee-free third-level education.
The number of people deferring college places to take a year out from study is at an historic low. By last Tuesday, 29,000 applicants had reportedly accepted a college place.



Aer Lingus require changes 

Aer Lingus has said it will require fundamental changes in its operations following losses of more than €22m so far this year. The company blamed a jump of almost 50% in its fuel costs for the significant drop in day-to-day profits.
 

Electric Picnic 

Many Kilkenny music fans will be heading for the campsites and stages of Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Co Laois today as the anticipated weekend full of music and entertainment kicks off. The campsites opened at 9am this morning. It is the fifth year of the festival and organisers are promising the best and biggest event yet. More than 32,000 people are expected at the venue over the next three days.

Heritage Week
Kilkenny's Heritage week has been running all this week and finishes on the 31st of August. There are many events taking place all over the city and county throughout the weekend.
