An earlier accident on the Barna road between Freshford and Ballyraggett has been cleared.

A car overturned and struck an ESB pole at approximately 7.30 am this morning.

A Garda source confirmed that a young man, the sole occupant of the car, was brought to hospital and was not badly injured.

The ESB have replaced the broken pole and a new pole has been re wired and power has been restored to the surrounding area.

 

 

Gardai at Macroom, Co. Cork, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 65 year old farmer.

 

The man died on arrival at Cork University Hospital yesterday evening following an earlier incident at Ryland, Co. Cork.

The man died following an alleged assault on him and his brother yesterday afternoon.

 

Gardai are awaiting post mortem results, scheduled to take place this morning at C U H, before continuuing their investigations.

Gardai in Roscommon are investigating the murder of a Brazilian woman in the town last night.

A weapon has been recovered at the house earlier this morning.

Gardai have detained a man in his 30's in relation to the death.

The alarm was raised after 7pm yesterday evening when the woman in her 20's received fatal stab wounds.

It is believed the attack happened in another house on Lanesboro Street, Roscommon.

The man was arrested a short time later in relation to this incident and is currently being detained at Roscommon Garda Station.

He can be detained for a period up to 24 hours pending the results of Garda Technical Bureau and State Pathologist findings.

The State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, has been to the scene and will carry out the post mortem this evening at Portuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.


Dysart Festival Refunds

 

People who purchased Dysart Festival tickets will have to wait longer than originally stated for there refunds However, organisers promise that they will receive the money in full. Originally, they had promised that money would be refunded automatically to credit card accounts on August 15th, but this timeframe has now been extended. Dysart organisers are asking customers to be patient for up to 28 days after the event as they hope to have it all refunded by then. All customers can access there website on www. dysartfestival.com.

 

 

Nore swim

 

This years Nore Swim has been postponed until September 14th despite efforts to have the swim earlier this year. Kilkenny Water Safety have made the decision to postpone the event due to the high water levels that the county has experienced recently due to flooding. However, the Kilkenny Water Safety Nore Swim expect the event to attract even more people than it has in the past three years.

Kilkenny county council have issused the following advice to local inhabitants:

Due to the flooding at Water Sources, consumers are advised as a precautionary measure to boil water in the following locations:

Bennettsbridge, Danesfort, Stoneyford, Kilmoganny, the Kells Area, Dunnamaggin, Paulstown, Goran, Goresbridge and the Ballyraggett Area

This is a precautionary notice. Kilkenny County Council are carrying out tests to the water supply and customers will be further notified as test results become available.
